|Hello my friends,
I know this has been a very difficult month. I’m standing with you when I say WOW wtf?!?! I did not think this is how 2020 would go!!!
Can you believe it’s almost been a month since life changed forever?!?! I know that when we made our last minute decision to cancel our March Break trip to Cuba and then the schools got closed and then we made the agonizing decision to close our business ahead of the provincial order to protect our staff and their loved ones I was just REELING. I sat paralyzed for 14 days watching the news desperate for some HOPE, ANSWERS, SENSE and MEANING.
After those early stages of grief (denial, anger, bargaining, depression) passed (let’s be honest I’m still messily going through all of these things sometimes in the same day!) but after I got to a bit of acceptance, settling in, I was ready to find some MEANING in all of this. Marilyn and I looked at each other and rolled up our sleeves and got to work! Our business and our team are STRONG thanks to all of our loyal customers and while we can’t be making our gorgeous drapery right now we are committed to helping our health care workers fight COVID-19!!!
If you follow us on Facebook or Instagram you will have seen that we are working tirelessly making masks, caps and gowns for our health heroes on the first, second and third lines of the fight against COVID-19. It is alarming how little PPE is available and we have converted our mission from Perfect Drapery to Helping Health Heroes.
Our entire team, plus over a dozen volunteers, are working around the clock ordering supplies, delivering and picking up all over the GTA, washing fabric, cutting mask and cap kits and sewing sewing sewing like the wind! Some of us with little ones to care for and homeschool! On top of all of that, we are doing it remotely from the safety of our own homes so we are minimizing risk to ourselves and others while doing this good work.
It’s been a ride and I want you to know that we are committed to getting back to work on your drapery orders just as soon as it is safe to do so. We thank you for your patience while we navigate this very new and uncomfortable territory. We will come back from this stronger than ever!
For now, I hope you will join us in helping our health heroes by donating to our GO FUND ME to keep our supplies coming. We are providing all of the labour FREE but we need to be able to buy fabric, elastic, thread and gas to get all of this stuff to where it needs to be and I have spent $5000 in the last 2 days!!! We are hoping to get our mask production up to over 1000 per week and our scrub caps to over 500 per week.
It’s easy to get lost in grieving how everything we know is different but I see hope. I have seen incredible generosity and I see us working through this thing TOGETHER even though we have to do it apart for now.
Much love to all of you as we get through another day in isolation. Please reach out on Instagram and connect with me. So many of you have already done that and I thank you. Your messages are fueling us right now.
All our best and I hope you’ll join us – WE CAN DO HARD THINGS!
